The exhibition comprises a collection of paintings that feature doors of various shapes, sizes, and colours, each with its own distinct personality and character. The Michael Westlake Trio is Michael on keyboards and vocals, Denis Toner on double bass and Michael Evans-Barker on drums and percussion. Look forward to an evening of blended jazz fusion with classical influences, and an adventure at every turn.
Elle T’s music delivers a smooth ambient and sophisticated sound. Elle T on vocals, and Malcolm Hornby on the keyboard play classics from the Jazz and lounge repertoire mixed with a sprinkling of latin, to bring an engaging and varied assortment of arrangements.
They are experienced musicians. Elle T has performed at venues in Melbourne, Jazz festivals, in regional Victoria and overseas. With a love of singing she has toured the states in a gospel choir, performed in A Cappella groups and sung in bands from soul, rock and to jazz.
Malcolm Hornby has played piano/keyboards for nearly all of his life. His first band was a covers band as a teenager, and he has performed in a wide range of different settings since then. For the last 15 years Malcolm has been working as a piano teacher. His favourite style of music to play is Jazz, and he is currently performing with an Instrumental Jazz group, a vocal trio and a duo. With a sound that echoes from Julie London through to Dianna Krall and Norah Jones “Elle T Duo” will fit the bill.
He's baaaaaaaack for 2020!

Gammera the Invincible is a 1965 Japanese kaiju (monster) film. In the Arctic, an unknown aircraft is shot down by an American jet fighter. The aircraft crashes and its cargo, a low-level atomic bomb, explodes. The resulting cataclysm awakens a prehistoric monster that has the appearance of a giant turtle with teeth and large tusks. As expected, you are delivered basic level sexism and cultural misinterpretation within the first 5 minutes, and the monster is dubious. But a good laugh with a Daylesford Porter or a Celtic Red Ale.
Charade is a comedy / mystery / romance starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. Audrey Hepburn quite appropriately appears in four different outfits in the first ten minutes, which is highly pleasing. The characters spend the film trying to work out how killed Audrey Hepburn’s husband who she is distinctly not fond of. Cary Grant is a 55 years old, and Audrey Hepburn only 33 when the film was made so this makes the romance thing a little weird. But the frocks and suits are great - best served with a glass of Rob Dolan dry sparkling.
With her sun-drenched voice and songs about far-flung corners of the world, Anna Smyrk paints stunning pictures of places she’s lived- from the sapphire waters of the Solomon Islands to a dusty city in Cambodia.
She comes to Ballarat to launch her brand new EP; a collection of songs about her time spent living in wild places. Her live show features glowing harmonies, masterful violin and mandolin, songs in several languages, and lots of stories.
Anna’s new EP is out on November 1st, but singles from the record are already getting love on Double J, ABC, BBC and community radio. AU Review called it "a glorious piece of musical storytelling " and Soundcheck magazine said it “packs a heart-rending and elegant punch.”
Hailing from regional Victoria, Anna Bilbrough first picked up her dad’s old nylon-stringed guitar when she was fourteen, marking the beginning of her foray into song writing. Singing since the age of eleven and performing since the age of twelve, Anna sings her own compositions that range from Dylan and Baez-inspired folk songs to pop-infused tracks about Orlando Bloom lookalikes. Over the years, Anna has supported Australian musicians such as Liz Stringer and Melissa Ramsay. She has been booked for events such as White Night Ballarat and many local community fundraising initiatives. Anna draws lyrical inspiration from her life and observations and counts Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac and Carly Simon as her musical influences.

A NYE like no other.
Ballarat had so many bad girls of history - "Polly the Nipper", "Sydney Nell", Honora Roberts and Ela Jackson amongst others. It's time to give them the recognition they deserve. We're celebrating the survivors, the scrappers, the brothel keepers with cocktails and night on the dance floor with DJ PLMH.
Advance purchase a $15 to enter the sneaky speakeasy for a night of wild moonshine and bathtub gin, and your first cocktail is on us, or just turn up on the night.
Our last Basement Session for the year sees Stalwart musician, Rod Gear bring his Latin and Middle Eastern musical expressions to The Basement Bar. Using his guitar and loop station, Gear creates subtle loops that draw the listener in, evoking a spectrum of emotion & thought. His arrangements of familiar songs, leave you with the essence of the composition, whilst injecting his own unique views into the mix. A great afternoon for some reflective world music.
